The Impact of Grief on Daily Life

Grief; where your body reacts to losing something that you care about or it can be a response to things such as a relationship breakdown, losing out on life that you could have but can’t due to health reasons or even missing out on a job opportunity. It can show up in ways that you least expect it and can hit you at any given moment.

Grief can affect your mental and physical health in your daily life and as time goes on, it can get easier, but it never truly goes away. It can pop up in ways such as simply reminiscing over old memories to not wanting to leave your house. It can feel like you are being left behind and feel like you can’t do things that you used to be able to do.

The impact that grief has on someone can affect people in different ways and can take as little or as long to overcome that grief. It can affect people in ways such as mood swings, concentration and sleep challenges, feelings of loneliness and so on.

Greif can make the day to day more challenging and that is ok! It can take time to overcome so allow yourself to feel your feelings as they come, find support within those around you and do things that allow you to remember.

No matter how hard it may be, remember to do things that you enjoy. It can help you lift yourself up and see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, in times of grief, it’s ok not to be happy or show happiness. Be open and honest with yourself and others.

At the end of the day, grief will always be there when you lose someone or something that you care about. It may come in many different forms but it’s valid and you shouldn’t feel ashamed of having those feelings. Reach out for support when you need it as there are people who care about you and who care about helping you.
