Waiting lists; They are a list of people that are waiting for something that is not yet available. Being on a mental health waiting list can mean you could be waiting for a while for support. Getting support sometimes can’t get there quick enough so knowing what you can do to support yourself whilst on a waiting list is important.
Finding local groups to get involved with can be a place where you can find support, community and enjoyment. As well as finding hubs such as the Hangout that can provide you with immediate mental health support whilst you are waiting on further support.
What is the Hangout?

Want to do something in your own time? Find what works for you but here are some ideas you can try in your own time;
Daily Check In;
- How am I feeling now?
- What is worrying me at the moment?
- Who do I feel comfortable talking to?
- What self-care activities would you like to do today?
- Is there anything I am looking forward to?
Self-care activities that I can try;
- Try new things; Joining a club, writing poetry or try crocheting
- Move your body; Dance, go for a walk or try yoga
- Get creative; Journal, DIY crafts, draw/colour or try scrap booking
- Change of scenery; Redesign your room or get out of the house
- Get relaxed; Watch a film, read a book or listen to some music
- Meet your needs; Take a nap, eat your favourite meal or do something you enjoy
Remember, what works for other people may not work for you and people work at different time frames. There are many resources out there that can help you whilst you are on a waiting list. It’s about finding what works best for you.
Even though you may be on a waiting list, reaching out for some extra support from the people around you such as friends and family can give you a support system that you need.
