Mental health; where it relates to how you think and feel. No matter if you have good or bad mental health, everyone can be affected by it. Looking after your mental health and wellbeing can be challenging and knowing how to do so before you get to breaking point is important.
The breaking point is where you get to a place where you can’t handle something anymore, where things get too much and you don’t know how to get out of it. It becomes harder to get back on track and to improve your mental health and wellbeing.
Looking after yourself before you get to this point will be beneficial for your wellbeing. It allows you to not get burnt out, to not have so many unwelcome thoughts and feelings, and to create a routine that lasts for a long period of time. Here are a few tips on how to look after yourself;
Routine; having a good routine, even if it’s as you wake up or before you go to bed will set you up well for each day. No matter what goes on during the day, at least you’ve got something that you are able to stick to, to make sure that the important things are complete. For example, showing or even doing something you enjoy, such as reading a book.
Support; creating a support system that allows you to talk with others when you feel down or to have a sense of community. It allows you to feel like you belong, to create friendships that last a lifetime and be there to lift you up when you are feeling down.
Breaks; Making sure that you have time for yourself is important, it can help you be able to make decisions better, to create a clearer mind. As well as allowing yourself to relax both physically and mentally, which comes hand in hand with each other. It allows you to check in on yourself and to make sure you are able to get what you need.
Stick up for yourself; Knowing when to say no, when to set boundaries and to stick up for yourself is something that is important. It allows you to know that when it comes to it, you will be able to show up for yourself, that you will be able to advocate for your needs when you need it.
Looking after your mental health and wellbeing can be anything from setting boundaries with yourself or others, to setting out a good morning or bedtime routine or even getting your favourite food. It can be anything you want it to be, however, making sure that you look after yourself always is key.
