The beginning of the year is always a chance to to try new things and leave the things you don’t want behind. You don’t need to know what you want to do right from the get-go, and that’s ok. It’s about finding the things that you want to do that are the right match for you. If that means going from one thing to the next until you find that thing, then that will be the case.
Trying something new doesn’t have to follow the trends; it can be anything you want it to be. It can be trying a new sport or going out of your comfort zone and trying stand-up comedy. You shouldn’t feel ashamed about what you want to try. If you enjoy it, then stick with it! Here are some things you can try;
Arts & Crafts; Getting creative with your hands not only can be enjoyable for many, but it can be used as a tool to help with your wellbeing. It can reduce stress and minimize challenges with anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.
Why not try some of these;
- Learn how to paint, draw or even start learning how to face paint
- Start sculpting, pottery, woodworking or even start scrapbooking
- Get involved with jewelry making or creating your own clothes
Getting Outside; This doesn’t just mean getting involved with sports, there are many other things you can try that involve being outside.
Why not try some of these;
- Learn how to do photography
- Start walking, hiking or even start urban exploring
- You can even start gardening and grow your own food
Getting outside your comfort zone; Stepping outside of your comfort zone can build resilience, helps you deal with change and grow with the experiences that you have.

Finding what you enjoy is important for your wellbeing, can create a community, and helps you get away from the day-to-day stresses. It can take time to find what you want to stick with, and that is ok. Remember that you don’t need to stick to one thing at a time and it’s ok if you decide after a short period of time that you would rather change it up. It’s all about finding what you enjoy, so have fun with it!
