Connect with others. Get mental health support. Find opportunities.
We’ve opened a new hub in Cardiff, which we’re calling The Hangout. It’s at 26-28 Churchill Way.
It’s a place where you can meet other people, access mental health support, find volunteering opportunities, and get involved in groups that could really help boost your wellbeing.
It’s for anyone aged 11-18.
What's there?
- Drop-in mental health support (any time we’re open!)
- Scheduled mental health support (if you’d prefer to make an appointment)
- Wellbeing groups
- Creative groups
- Volunteering
What do I need to do?
We’re open 3pm – 9pm every day, weekdays and weekends, including bank holidays. For most things, you can just turn up and ask anything you want to know.
For mental health support, anyone that feels like they need some support can come and talk to us, and together we’ll work out what to do next.
For wellbeing groups, creative groups, or volunteering, come and talk to us about what’s happening when, or get in touch using the details below.
Prefer to plan ahead?
If you’d find it easier to make an appointment for anything we do, that’s fine too. Answer a few quick questions here – The Hangout – Get support – and we’ll be in touch.
If you’re getting some mental health support from a different service, the person you’re working with there can also contact us; just send them this page
How do I get in touch?
You can come see us between 3pm-9pm, any day of the week. You can also email hangout@platfform.org (two Fs) or call 07811 375417.
If you want to make an appointment for one-to-one support, there’s a few quick questions to answer here: The Hangout – Get support
For mental health service staff
If you’re working with a young person aged 11-18 that you’d like to refer to us, you can do so using our form here: The Hangout – Get support for a young person
Who's running it?
We’re Platfform, a mental health charity and The Hangout is funded by the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
We do a lot of things around young people’s mental health and wellbeing. We don’t like it when young people are just told what they need, or that there’s something ‘wrong’ with them. For us, it’s really important to actually listen to people, hear what they’re telling us, and work with each person to figure together out what things will actually help.
We’re also big on connection, because we know that isolation can be a really difficult thing for wellbeing. That’s why as well as mental health support, The Hangout has groups and other ways for you to meet people.
We work closely with other services run by Cardiff and Vale University Health Board that support young people. This means that we’re able to talk to each other to make sure that you receive the best support possible. We might share information with other services if we think that it’ll help you or if you want us to, but we’ll never share with anyone that doesn’t need to know. You can read more about how we share information in our data sharing leaflet. You can find out more about what Platfform does at https://platfform.org/projects/life-work-and-wellbeing/young-people/
Volunteering with the Hangout
We’re excited to offer volunteering opportunities at The Hangout for people who have experience within mental health, psychology, have worked with young people or have a passion in helping people.
Volunteering with us will be a great opportunity to develop skills in supporting young people with mental health challenges, delivering wellbeing and activity sessions, build a professional knowledge, build confidence in dealing with a range of circumstances, work within a multi-disciplinary team and participate in reflective practice. In addition, if you have any specific career goals, we can help support your career developments, applications, and network across wider team at Platfform.
We can also offer placements for students who would like experience within a mental health setting working with young people.
