We work with 11 – 16 year olds in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot, using a combination of one-to-one support, peer support groups and the State of Mind Programme.
You don’t need a diagnosis to get help from the project – we work with anyone who is struggling. We don’t try to ‘fix’ people. We listen and work with participants to find new ways and strategies that help to promote wellbeing.
Anyone taking part will also have the opportunity to train to become a Volunteer Peer Mentor. Mentors work with us to shape the project’s future, ensuring that it’s exactly what young people want and need.
What’s involved
Peer groups
Weekly meet-ups in a safe and relaxed environment where you can be yourself and have your own voice. Participants decide what areas of wellbeing they want to discuss and how much they want to share. In the groups, we will deliver workshops on topics that the young people ask for, so it’s a place to learn from each other and have fun in the process!
121 Support
Our 1-2-1 support takes place over six, one-hour sessions. This session can be placed either face to face or online depending on where the young person feels most confident. This could either be in School, in our Office in Morriston, Swansea or in the local community (e.g. coffee shop or library). For those who wish to have support online, we can do a phone call, zoom or teams.
Please note, this is not a counselling service. We focus on a strength-based approach to help the young people learn new ways to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
Group work
We run a Six-week Wellbeing Program (known as State of Mind), designed by young people for young people, and aims to provide information and guidance around supporting their own mental health and wellbeing. Our program consists of 6 one-hour sessions, that take place in an environment such as schools or community areas, that allow young people to come together and support each other towards positive change.
We can also offer support to schools and community groups around other topics related to mental health and wellbeing, including:
· Exam Stress
· General Wellbeing
· Online Safety
