Year 6 Transition Workshops

Our transition workshop is a fun, interactive, and supportive session that provides students with practical strategies to manage their concerns about starting secondary school. We focus on building confidence, resilience, and problem-solving skills to help students approach this transition with a positive mindset.

What students will learn

Through engaging activities, group discussions, and confidence-building exercises, students will:

  • Develop resilience and adaptability to manage new challenges
  • Learn coping strategies for handling worries about change
  • Gain problem-solving and assertiveness skills to navigate social and academic situations
  • Practice techniques to ease anxiety about making friends, meeting new teachers and managing a new environment.
  • Build confidence to approach secondary school with excitement and readiness.

Why join the workshops?

Research conducted by the Platfform team highlights that students’ biggest concerns revolve around:

  • Social changes – making new friends and fitting in.
  • Academic pressure – handling new subjects and expectations
  • Adapting to a new environment – managing schedules, finding their way around, and understanding school rules.

By participating in the workshop, students will feel more prepared, reassured, and excited about their next educational step.

Who can attend

This workshop is open to all Year 6 students in Swansea preparing to transition into secondary school. This is offered through their primary school staff, and Platfform aims to provide workshops during the summer holidays on transition, anxiety, resilience, and more. Whether your child feels nervous or just wants to gain extra confidence, this session will provide valuable guidance and support.
